Mª Sandra Peña teaches Linguistics at the University of La Rioja (Spain). Her main research interests are related to the organization of knowledge in the form of Idealized Cognitive Models, with especial emphasis on image-schemas and on the way these constructs interact with other cognitive models. Very recently she has devoted considerable attention to the way in which Role and Reference Grammar and Cognitive Linguistics can complement each other. Her most recent book (Cognitive Linguistics: Internal Dynamics and Interdisciplinary Interaction, published by Mouton de Gruyter and coedited with Francisco J. Ruiz de Mendoza) compiles a collection of papers by several leading cognitive linguists. She has published several papers in journals like Miscelánea. A Journal of English and American Studies, Journal of English Studies, Annual Review of Cognitive Linguistics, RESLA, Jezikoslovlje, etc. and some chapters in books like Interaction and Cognition in Linguistics (published by Peter Lang) and Cognitive Linguistics: Internal Dynamics and Interdisciplinary Interaction. Her book Topology and Cognition. What Image-schemas Reveal about the Metaphorical Language of Emotions (Lincom Europa, 2003) has been translated into Korean by Lim Ji-ryoung (Hankook Publishing Company, 2006). She has attended and actively taken part in such conferences as the 7th and 8th International Cognitive Linguistics Conferences, and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th International Conferences of the Spanish Cognitive Linguistics Association, among others. She is a member of the editorial board of the Annual Review of Cognitive Linguistics and of the scientific board of Journal of English Studies and she is the secretary of Revista Española de Lingüística Aplicada.
